A Song by Me: "Our Story"

I am so many things, including a singer and songwriter. Truthfully, music is my first love. I sing every day and have done so since I was 7 or 8, at least. Even though I have yet to master the art of reading music, my first tattoo at 18 was of a treble clef. I knew with certainty my love for music was permanent.

One of the clearest lessons I’ve learned in recent years—amid a pandemic and political turmoil—is that the physicality of life is too fleeting not to engage in what you love with fervency. If not now, when? So, with boldness, I present my new song, Our Story, out now on all digital platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and iTunes.

Love encompasses all the senses. It is sweeping, full, and overwhelming. But I don’t have many songs on the various playlists I build that speak to the experiences of love as a Black gay man, specifically. Our Story attempts to articulate one of my experiences with all-consuming, queer love. I needed to create a tender, heartfelt love song specifically about a man loving another man. Because, indeed, I love the way I love other men, especially when they love me back.

The song was produced by Sun Ascendant at PS 379 Studio, and the single artwork was created by Douglas Hale. Both are incredibly talented individuals who displayed so much thoughtfulness, professionalism and care with this project. I highly recommend them.

And trust: I have many more songs that will be recorded and shared in the months and years to come. My heart is filled to the brim with them.
